The Heart Behind Generations Grappling Academy
"Grappling has the power to shape lives, build families, and strengthen communities."
Meet Coach Anthony
Anthony Friese’s journey began as a high school wrestler in Alaska, where he discovered the discipline, accountability, and resilience that would shape his life. After competing at UW–Stevens Point, bodybuilding, and eventually diving deep into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Anthony developed not only as an athlete but as a teacher and leader. He has trained with world-class teams across the country, competed at the highest levels, and founded a youth jiu-jitsu academy in Idaho before returning home to Wisconsin. Now a brown belt in jiu-jitsu and volunteer coach for UWSP wrestling, Anthony’s passion lies in sharing the lessons of grappling with the next generation.

Our Story
Generations Grappling Academy was founded on the belief that grappling is bigger than sport — it is a way to prepare for life. Anthony saw firsthand how wrestling shaped his work ethic and how jiu-jitsu taught him humility and problem-solving. Raised primarily by a single mother, he understands the importance of role models, accountability, and community. Grappling gave him those gifts, and this academy was created to pass them on to others.
Our Values
At the heart of Generations Grappling Academy are values that guide everything we do:
-
Discipline – Showing up, working hard, and mastering fundamentals over time.
-
Resilience – Facing setbacks and pressure with grit to come back stronger.
-
Responsibility – Taking accountability for oneself, living with integrity, and developing the wisdom to make good choices.
Our Why
Training at Generations is about far more than learning techniques. Grappling trains the body for strength, shapes the mind with focus and discipline, and builds community that lasts. Kids learn responsibility and confidence, adults find challenge and camaraderie, and families discover the joy of growing together. The lessons learned here prepare every student to face life with integrity and resilience.
Family Impact
Generations Grappling Academy is rooted in family because we live it every day. Anthony’s wife and two of his children train alongside him, and the benefits have been undeniable — stronger bonds, healthier lifestyles, and shared values carried beyond the mat. This family-friendly approach is important in our academy, making it a place where parents and kids can connect, grow, and push each other toward their best.
